The camo green should be available 'over the counter' as it's mixed at the factory (you've just got to find a Protec stockist).
The light Tan & Black have to be ordered in.

The paint shop I use in Bayswater carry the 4 litre tins of Camo Green and also rattle cans.

Did you check the link Mick_Marsh posted ?

Somerton (VIC) also make the spray cans on demand. They also make different shades if required. Best of all these cans don't seem to clog or splutter like the factory cans.

What type of paint ? Alkyd Enamel the same as the pre mixed camo green ?

I've been using the Protec rattle can camo green without any issues but have heard several people comment on them spluttering/clogging.
The paint shop I use can get the black & tan in 4 litres but it has to be ordered from Protec. I don't need 4 litres of each so maybe when I need some I'll get 4 litres of each and sell 1/2. Rattle can green was $18 from memory and under $60 for 4 litres.

The paint appears to be the same as the the pre mixed, although the label lists many more ingredients (maybe just more detail than previous, maybe a new formula).

    I've read some reasons for the pre-mixed cans spluttering/clogging;

    • old out of date paint - although i have experience issues with paint that was well within use by (almost two years)
    • shaking too much - apparently they should be rocked in a see-saw motion for quite some time rather than shaken up and down

Its just a matter of finding a Protec agent with on site mixing gear for the type of paint you want.......ie protec 304 series enamel, 363 series modified enamel or acrylic
Most spray shops and panel beaters use acrylic paints as thats whats most cars use.
Here in Nowra I go to a Auto wreakers who is a Protec agent with enamel mixing gear.
In the computor system is a formula for what ever colour paint I am looking for with other information, like brand, make and model of the equipment I want to paint.
I am in the forklift game.....ie ....42 5FG25 series Toyota forklift orange.....equals a paint code formula xyz ect.
It is then made up on the spot while I wait in what ever amount I need .....ie aerosol can........2 litre ......or 4 litre and I can get it mixed in 304, 363 or acrylic if the information is in the computor.
In the Protec information system.......camoflage green ...Australian army is easy and comes up in the mixing formation records straight away.
I have been buying Aust Army camo green in 4 and 2 lites cans four times a year for the last 6 years, mixed while I wait for my Stalwart amphibious truck project with no problem, matches every time straight from the Protec computor search.
If you have the codes for the Protec mix would greatly help some mixing the colour if they dont have access to the computor system.
I get the same done for Deep bronze green.......you must know if you are chasing Australian army deep bronze green or British army deep bronze green as one has more blue tint in it than the other.
Find a Protec dealer who supplies enamel paint for machinery dealers ect and not cars.

The Australian army tan is also in the system.......I think it comes up in in two different shades, a older colour and the current one the Australian army is using...........I cannot remeber exactly the correct name for the Aust tan colour.....Pilbar brown???????.
How the system works is repeat purchasers of Protec paint need the formula recorded in the system so they can buy more of the exact same colour.
If I want to paint my Landrover in Rons Purple shade which originally gets mixed by eye to the colour I want
I get the colour tints recorded into the Protec system as Rons purple Landrover shade and any one in the system can search for it and paint their Landrover in Rons purple shade and paint their Landrover the same colour by using the information in the system by any other Protec dealer with the mixing gear.

You need to find someone with Protec on site enamel mixing gear.
304 enamel is a basic enamel .....general purpose for painting machinery and industrial frame work ect.......it is a cheaper option and will fade quickly in the weather.

363 modified enamel is more expensive, but a much better paint and more suited to automotive use, longer lasting with less fade.

Camoflage green is a low sheen paint, because thats what the army wanted so the vehicles are harder to see.
Flat or low sheen paints generally are not water proof due to the low sheen nature and therefore hold oil stains and water and therefore should be applied over a normal gloss paint to increase rust protection.
The army never did the gloss coat.
I find the solution is to add enamel harder to the mix just before spraying the paint for a few reasons............the paint drys quickly, the paint is much harder, the paint becomes fully sealed or water proof, the finish is can be gloss or anywhere between gloss and flat depending on the amount of harder used.
Camo green if used straight out of the tin needs a anti rust under coat and then a gloss undercoat to make it last in its low sheen form.
