    Perentie paint

I had the local paint shop make up some Abrams tan or light tan for a desert cam look. I had a can that had gone lumpy. So had something to work from. I had the other colours, Cam green and tan.

I was also repainting the entire car so didn’t really matter if a little off.

Below is a alloy side door from the amphibious truck.
First coat is a etching primer because its alloy( not needed for steel)
Second coat is red oxide for rust protection.
Third coat camouflage green with only a small amount of enamel add/ harder.
Fourth light coat with a large amount of harder( water proofs and adds a shine to a mostly flat paint.)

    Just FYI,

    I went to protec today (23rd Oct 2018) in Adelaide (Gillman) and picked up some original paint;

    Here is the costing...

342-1166 4Ltr can Camo Green (modified with whatever they put in it) $62.70 +gst
342-7165 Spray can Camo Black (modified) $13.89 +gst
342-5762 Spray can Light Tan (Needed to be mixed not on shelf) $21.74 +gst

And colour match on the Tan vs my no5 trailer...

Only the red oxide covered on a single coat, matches well.

The paint shop also said do light coverage of the green wait to flash dry and recoat, otherwise you can get a glossy finish.

Just some info for owners in W.A

    Protec paint stockist
Paint Powerhouse - Welshpool87 Welshpool Road
    Welshpool, WA 6106, Australia

*They have most Protec paints in spray cans on the shelf.
*can mix the other dessert tan colours in spray cans.
*Can supply all colours in 4lt tins.
*Can make up other colours in spray cans.

*After calling in there I realised its the same business that used to make up spray can colours for equipment we used (Genie blue, CAT yellow etc etc)
*Yes some protec spray cans can get cloggy if not used up fairly quickly.
    Regards
    Daz

    Cool

And here is the product data info...
An extremely helpful paint sales rep “Mark” (one of those types you get to speak to when you scare off the initial salesman by asking about paints ability to avoid reflection in your night-vision goggles and they say, “I’ll just get someone who knows about this stuff... [who cares about it more than me!]” from the Perth Welshpool centre mentioned before in this thread looked up all info for me and also put me in touch with O’Keefe’s paint in Albany WA to get it to me down south. Mark was truly excellent, seeking all the info and actually smsing info direct from his mobile.
The data on the good stuff:

Now there was some online mention that the paint was restricted due to it being for army only, but Mark confirmed that ‘single pack products are available to the public’. Unsure if there is some army only product? But this paint still has the anti-infrared reflection capability and basic chemical resistance. Seemingly inane things are often restricted these days, sometimes due to security agreements with US so we can share their new toys and they ours.

A bit of a necro-post, but I can confirm that protec "camouflage green" and "camouflage brown" spray cans do indeed have IRR protection - i.e. they do not glow under night vision. Tested with Gen 2+, Gen 3 and digital Sionyx Aurora. I don't have any "camouflage black" cans here to test, but no doubt it would be the same.

Paint is available from KLR Automotive. As well as the spray cans, they occasionally have the 4 litre cans.
