Great thanks. RX Super 20l currently on special at Supercheap for $99.99.
I am about to change the oil in the engine, gearbox and transfer case of my Perentie. I have Castrol Magnatec Diesel 15w-40 already on hand.
Does anyone have a problem with using Magnatec Diesel?
Thank you!
This is from the Castrol web site...
First recommendation for the donk is Castrol Magnatec Diesel 15W-40
Second is Castrol GTX Diesel 15W-40
Third is Castrol RX Diesel 15W-40 CI-4 PLUS/E7
And for the Gearbag they recommend: Castrol GTX Ultraclean 14W-40
And second choice is Castrol Magnatec Diesel 15W-40

Cheers, Mick.
Good point Rick,
My wife has a Suzuki Grand Vitara (2.4 engine) and the first recommended oil by Suzuki is a 0W-20.
When we first purchased the vehicle ten or so years back i couldn't get get the recommended oil, as it wasn't very
popular back then, so i rang the local dealer where she purchased the car new and asked them what they use.
They seemed to have no idea about using the 0W-20, but said they use a 10W-40, so I went with their choice.
About a fortnight later my wife asked me what i had done when i serviced her car as the fuel economy had dropped off.
The manual stated that if a heavier grade oil other than the 0W-20 was used. it may result in drop in fuel economy, as well
harder starting in the winter months.
By the time it was due for its next oil change I was able to source 0W-20 and have stuck with it ever since.
Cheers, Mick.
0w-20 oils were developed for the fuel economy benefits but they work in terms of protection, too, as long as clearances and finishes are optimised for them.
The US has been using them for years right across the board due to Federal fleet fuel economy requirements.
Thanks for getting back to me Mick.
Hi Mick,
The recommendations that you posted are for gearbox and transfer case for LT 85. See below.
Engine Oil and Fluid Recommendation for
LAND ROVER - One Ten - County, 4BD1 Diesel, LT85 5-Speed, 4x4 (1985-1991)
Most Perenties run the LT95. I have always used 15W40 Castrol RX Super Diesel for both engine, gearbox and transfer case. Has worked well and when on special is pretty good value in the 20 litre drum. I am happy to be corrected but I believe this to be suitable for the Perentie.
Regards Warrick.
Not Perentie, but my 110 with the same engine and gearbox has used RX Super for the last 28 years. Now approaching 700,000km, seems to have been satisfactory.
