    Canning stock route

I have just done the 2000 k very rough trip I carried 4 jerry can on top with 1 spare wheel and I think because of that I tore out 3 of the 4 inserts that hold the rack onto the roll cage , so to did half the trip held with ratchet straps . I tore the side out of one tyre , I carried 2 spare wheels . I carried 20 liters of water in a tank I fitted where the spare wheel normally goes , it is now in the back of the truck . 70 cans of beer 20 litres of drinking water ,6 beers ruptured during the trip. The trip is normally done in the 40 to 60 K P H range and is VERY corrugated , you look forward to the sand hills for a smooth ride The Perentie did not have any trouble with the dunes , I think only 2 took 2 attempts My truck is a stock general service unit with stock wheels which I ran at 25 psi, It did the trip no problems but after the end all the gauges began to fluctuate ,found to be a loose earth , the fuel cut of failed , found to be a loose earth to the relay , the front diff began to leak , the flange bolts had vibrated loose and the spigot for the hood latch had stripped out , and 1 jerry can cracked ,lucky it was one of the 2 on the back of the truck not the top ones . Then a rock that had found its way to the top of the fuel tank punched a hole in it .So it was a fuel tank out and fix with a self tapper and sealant . So you can see it was not a smooth sailing trip , but I did see some great sites and at least I have done it .Iam 72 and did the trip solo. You can get fuel in about 1000 k,s into the trip at 340 a litre .I had to as I only had 2 jerrys left there , so as yo can see I had the stock 60 litre plus 4 x20 litres on the roof and 2 jerry,s on the back . I seemed to get about 380 to 4 20 ks per tank fill .

OMG, that's terrible - "6 beers ruptured during the trip"!

Sounds like you had a blast, and most things that broke were easily repairable. I love trips like that.
Life is just a series of obstacles preventing you from taking a nap.
