Sounds like you have an air leak in your fuel lines from the tank or a blocked sedementer
My truck was very hard to start , so I had the lift overhauled . Now it starts first turn of the switch but after 3 seconds begins to misfire and then stops .It takes about 3 more attempts of 3 seconds rough running to come onto a steady run . The hand primer being pumped makes no difference to this . The hand primer can take about 3 pumps for me to hear the relief valve in the main unit, relieve. After it has started you can drive it all day fine , but after an overnight rest it goes back to the hard starting . any ideas ?

Also check and clean the screen on the inlet to the injector pump

I'm guessing an air leak as well.
The fact it initially starts then misses, points to this.
For the purposes of diagnostic change out the fuel filter, if you have done so recently.
Also make sure the fuel shutoff solenoid is staying open. Purely from memory as I havent looked to see what solenoid the Perentie uses, but normally the solenoid is a three wire, one circuit pulls it open and then the other circuit holds it open.

The filter I think you are talking about is on the lift pump and that was renewed during lift pump overhaul .The main fuel filter has been changed . As to an air leak in the supply line you would think that the hand priming pump would take more than 3 pumps to go hard if that was the case .I do not know off a fuel cut of solenoid on the Perentie , if there is one where is it and what controls it ??. Thanks for the input.
The 4BD1 does not have a fuel cut off solenoid. It has a mechanical stop lever on the side of the IP which is operated by an EDIC motor on the bulkhead via a cable.
Have you checked the sedementer just in front of the drivers side rear wheel inside the cill attached to the chassis? It is a likely spot for an air leak.

Well it turned out I was the problem . When refitting the lift pump I reversed the inlet and the return line , I am surprised that once it had started it ran fine , reversed the fuel lines and it start first rotate .
I stand corrected, I gave up calling it a EDIC motor as every time I went to the local generator parts place and said EDIC motor, they looked at me blankly, if I said fuel shutoff solenoid, I was given the correct part.
The same Isuzu engine with either a edic motor or solenoid is/was used on many different brands of generators.
