    Salvage my perentie

    Hi folks
Recently someone pulled out and totalled my perentie. Currently it’s being assessed in detail to determine if it’s able to me repaired. I want some advice on others experience with this. It looks as though the front end needs replacing. Yes I have a broken neck, sounds bad but it’s comparatively minor. Thanks.

    Hi Mate,

About a year ago I purchased some parts for a Perentie off a guy that was selling his parts - because his Perentie had been hit from behind and the chassis was bent.

From what he said - because the chassis was bent, it would need to be completely stripped back to bare metal (removing the existing gal) - then straightened on a chassis jig, and then re-galvanised.

His insurance company wasn't prepared to re-gal the chassis - and he wasn't prepared to have a chassis "repaired" that wasn't properly re-galvanised.

Depending on the repair that you have - make sure that you cover this off. You don't want a repair section that isn't properly treated.

    Cheers,
    GG.

Even if it is written off you can still buy it back from the insurance company.
IMO as long as the main chassis (excl the outriggers) is not bent it can be repaired.
The firewall is hard to replace/ straighten as well but that would be unusual in a front on accident.
It really depends how much you have to spend as well.
The parts bill will build up quickly.

its almost infinitely repairable if the wallet is infinitely deep.

it will come down to what quality of repair you are willing to accept.

IF you got lucky and its a glancing hit that has only damaged the bar, a side wing and suspension components you're looking at an $5k bill, add radiator panel and radiator for another $1k any decent chassis work is going to push you straight into the 12K bracket. A steering box will run you $1kish fitted up.

if youve got buckles between the mounts on the chassis for the hocky sticks and rear lower link rods you're up for a casual $25k

Thanks folks. Fozzy it was quite a lot more than glancing... I’ll probably have about 18k to fix it, but a similar one will cost me about 24k anyway so I’m not sure what to do. I’ll wait for the report and when I have more specifics I’ll come back. Brad and Matt at KLR are my mechanics (Windsor). They have all the capability but we’ll wait and see if it’s practicable.
    Cheers :/
