    Rust in Door handle well

    Hey Everyone,
I've got a bit of rust in the LHS door handle well on my 1990 Perentie. I was wondering how other people treated this problem.

    Thank you, Mac

    Rust in Door Handle Well

I removed any flaking paint and gave the areas a couple of coats of Penetrol. It has stabilised the corrosion, and I hit it every now and then with another coat.

I am very new to Land Rovers but I noticed the rivets around the pocket or well. Is this something that can be removed by drilling the rivets and treating off the door?

    Thanks again,
    Mac

Not quite that simple. What you would be doing is removing the door skin from the door frame. As well as these rivets, the skin is held on by the capping rivetted to the top of the lower door and by having the edge turned over on all sides.

It can be done, and would be the best way of doing it, but it is a lot more complex than just removing those rivets, and needs care and a reasonable amount of expertise to avoid damaging the skin. The lock, of course, can be simply unbolted from the door.

I will clean up the flaking paint/rust and use the Penetrol to treat it.

My truck is 31 years old and I'll have to keep up with rust and its treatment.

    Thank you Cummo and John!
