    RFSV SOLAR SETUP

Just wondering if anyone has gone down the off grid solar route. I have a RFSV with the dual battery setup, I’m assuming I’d need to change out the current batteries for AGM, will they fit? What brand solar setup have people used, thinking of portable panels, not fixed roof. Thanks in advance.

My FFR had all the 24v batts and the cranking battery ripped out and a 12v RFSV style dual battery system installed in the passenger side battery locker, so my system is similar to yours I guess...

I have a pair of anderson connectors coming off my deep cycle "house" battery (which is an AGM type) which are routed into the rear cabin. I usually run a 12v fridge freezer off it while travelling, but it works for both input and output.

If I'm propped in one spot camping for more than a few days I'll usually break out the solar kit which in my case consists of:

    - 135aH slim AGM battery - housed in a 20mm ammo box with styrofoam or sprayfoam padding to stop the battery sliding around inside the box. I have three of these battery boxes.
    - Each battery has a fused cable with anderson connector on one end bolted onto the battery terminals.
    - 200W folding solar blanket with anderson connector. I have three of these.
    - Cheapie charge controller with anderson connectors (seeing a pattern here yet?). I have four of these - they are cheap after all, so they will crap out sooner or later.
    - Various adapters and cables to suit the equipment I run off the system (fridge/freezer, LED bar or strip lighting, laptop charge adapter, drone charge adapters, USB power hubs for recharging camera batteries, etc. Occasionally I'll also run a 12v pump for shower or transferring water between drums.)

The battery boxes can also be charged from the vehicle via anderson cable or from a small petrol generator I sometimes carry if there's going to be prolonged periods of rain and/or cloud cover.

It's not the most high-tech system, but it works for me and might give you some ideas.

I'm contemplating a 24v dual battery setup utilising the 28v generator and distribution box that was left in my FFR and using a 24v solar panel to keep it topped up while camped.

    Would this be doable??
