if all else fails a cheap way to connect your iPod to the car steroe is to buy a fm transmitter that plugs in the cigerrette lighter outlet and talks between the iPod and the car fm radio and play backs over your speakers.
Cost on ebay under $20
My 05 Disco S has a fairly basic radio compared with those in the more upmarket machines. I note an AUX button on the radio and assume this to indicate there is provision for an auxilliary input. I hope I can use this to connect an iPod to the radio.
Some 'how to' advice would be most welcome.

If you don't want to pull the stereo out to attach the aux cable the fm transmitter is definitely the way to go, most will charge the ipod at the same time.
Thanks cartm58. I've tried that option but the interferrence from outside sources was too much for 'easy listening'. I hope I can hard wire the iPod in. Sleepy's Old man
Mudsloth, I'm not worried about removing the radio. Is it easy to identify the socket for the Aux cable and is the plug a standard 'over the counter' item ?
do you have an aux in point on the back on the centre console under a lift up flap? My hse has one but not sure about the lower spec models.
The sound on aux input is considerably less - I have to turn the volume up to mid 20's for listening rather than low teens for radio/cd.
As a general rule with ipods you are better off taking the sound from the bottom of the unit through the dock connecter as a true line level, this bypasses the tiny and consequently fairly crappy amplifier in the ipod.
You can generally pick them up from ebay for about $15 and many also have a power feed so you can hardwire in to the vehicle, I have done this on several vehicles and always worked well.
The sound quality is much higher and the volume should be the same as radio or cd

If you are just looking for a dock connector to 3.5 mm type arrangement search ebay under LOD or dock connecter but be warned you can pay silly money for a LOD particularly if they are manufactured from 99.9999 %expensium or unobtanium or similar. I think silver is the current favourite, copper and gold were all the rage a few weeks ago.
