Thread: looking at ICOM IC-440

I have one (not in the current Disco) but it is a great radio. I have a GME at the monent as it was already in there so the Icom sits in the shed with the antenna. The overhead trim has been cut to fit the GME so I'm not going to change it, seemed a waste to let it go with the 80 Series when we sold it.

In my first Disco the main unit was mounted behind the glovebox, not sure if there is room there in a D2 but you don't need much!

Buy the Icom - They are Mil spec radios that stand up to any thing that you can throw at them. We have four at present - the oldest one has been all over Australia in some of the harshest conditions likely to be encountered and has been 100% reliable. They can be a bit of pain to operate until you have worked out how to navigate the menus, but once mastered they are exceptional.

the radio is in and works fine. I have no idea what my areal is I will see our tech heads today and see if i need to replace it or if it's ok.

But it does work, I am staggered at the level of unappropriate language here in SA, up in the NT no where near as bad

Yep, usually left ours off in Metro Adelaide, especially out around Salisbury (surprise, surprise)

That's the joys of having one of the handhelds I showed you (and probably the Icom too). Just program in your own private frequency as an extra channel, and you won't have to put up with the rest.

Did that on ours, and labelled it "Farm", for use at work. Don't get any numbskulls talking over us now.

Although it does help if the rest in your convoy can tune to the same frequency.
