Andrew ... there should be a CD. Programming app', USB Drivers, User manual in pdf. There's User programming guide pdf downloadable from China Two Way Radios,Mobile Transceiver Handheld Walkie Talkies & Interphone go to the downoad tab and get KG-UVD1P programming kit package and the updated programing app' KG-UVD1P V2.11 (24/6/11) Get it all installed and load up the .tw file so your all ready to go when the radio arrives ..... takes all of less than 30sec's to setup the radio

Sounds good I did order the cable all I need is for it to get here, Will have a look at the websites and see what I can learn in the meantime

Still waiting for the arrival of the radio, wondering if the VHF capability of the radio has any practical use? If it has I am more than happy to get any licences required.

I have looked and so far cannot find anything relating to the private use of the VHF frequency range available on the radio??

So far the only use I could find for the VHF would be the ability to hear the CFA, but think that having the ability to transmit on those channles would make this fairly illegal.

Anyone know more about this??

The unit you are waiting on is intended for Amateur Radio Operator use and as such can be operated on their 2m (144-148MHz) and 70cm(430-450Mhz) bands here in Australia.

I think even a Foundation Amateur Radio license will cover you for operating in those bands.

As to the CFA question. Yes, it does cover those frequencies and it should be OK to operate the radio if it is programmed for receive only on these frequencies. I know of a couple of volunteers who use these radios as CBs because they also monitor SES/CFA transmissions while they are working their usual day jobs. It gives them a bit of a heads-up in case they are called out.

Not sure of the exact rules on licensing but I'm pretty sure even owning equipment that you can program for transmit (even if you never actually do it) is considered on the wrong side of legal to operate on the CB frequencies. Sure, if you behave, and only use it on frequencies you are allowed to (that is, CB ), then you are unlikely to come under scrutiny. Still doesn't alter the legality status of the set though.

Strictly under the rules I believe even operating an Amateur set on the AM CB frequencies is illegal. This is true even if you only transmit at 5W in AM mode because the set is not licensed for CB operation.

Perhaps some of the more "current" ARO's can offer additional input here as I'm a little rusty on what can and can't be used these days.

Hi The radio has arrived, I have the software, the cable and everything is working fine. I can get the radio to talk to the computer and the radio to transmit and recieve using the UHF frequencies that were already on the radio.

How do I get the radio to work on the repeater channles and how do I get the 80 uhf channels from the computer to the radio? Hopefully There is a better way of changing the channles ie selecting a channle without scrolling through all of the frequencies, ie select channle 40 then go to channel 5 or 6 without having to know the actual frequency?

Think it wont be a big drama, just not pushing the right buttons yet & the manual has lost a bit in the translation!

Glad radio arrived in good order. How do you know the radio is talking to the computer? If the radio can talk to the computer then the computer can talk to the radio. It either works both ways or not at all.

To get to any channel you simply enter the channel number for the one you want. If you want channel 43, for example, just press "4" then "3" on the keyboard.

There have been a couple of radio files with the 80ch UHF CB plan uploaded to this forum. Just remember when you save the file to your PC to use the suffix ".tw". This is necessary as the radio software expects this ".tw" suffix and the forum can only accept ".txt" files for upload.

You should be able to open the file in the radio software and then write it to the radio. Always read and save a copy of whatever is already in the radio. This is useful just in case something goes wrong as it can do occasionally.
