Ok, hi guy's, i'll give you a hint, just registered with the plates of VK3JUG.. Still aerial less, been to busy to get near it, have a Codan 9350 auto tune to fit on the back and a couple of antenna mounts on the front, can't go on the gutters or won't fit into car parks when we go to Adelaide. Interested if any one has run cables from the engine bay to inside, where did you go thru?

Looking to mount an Elecraft KX3 and KXPA100 in the car in the near future. Probably use one of the Tarheel or Hi-Q antennas when I can afford something. In the meantime I've got a FAMPARC antenna that I just need to mount somewhere.
Cheers,

Having recently acquired a pair of UV-5R radios I'm contemplating applying for a Foundation licence. I've had an interest in amateur radios since my teens then one of my son's got hooked through Scouts and JOTA, including holding a JOTA at our place at the time, being on top of Razorback near Camden (great reception). My son has recently renewed his interest and now mine too. There'a a repeater 40K away that the UV-5R had no trouble receiving today even with its little antenna so I'll get in touch with the local club shortly.

Graeme, there are two repeaters on Razorback itself. Yoiu should get in easily with the BaoFeng. If you need a programming file for it, I can send you mine.
VK2RRR 2m transmits 147.275MHz and receives 147.875 (600kHz offset) and
VK2RRR 70cm transmits 439.600MHz and receives 434.600 (5MHz offset)

If you are interested our club will be running a Foundation course 13th August with the assessment on 14th August at our club rooms in Glenbrook (Decided at today's Committee meeting so it may not be on the club website yet. See Education | Blue Mountains Amateur Radio Club )
We do a deal, join our Club and the course is free - but you still have to pay the WIA for the assessment.
We'll be running a JOTA day on 15th Oct in the club rooms (the old scout hall).

Thanks Ron for the info and offer. However the wheels are turning with the WARC (I now live near Wagga) which I have joined - I just need to give some priority to getting the assessment and exam done. The hand-helds can pick-up at least 3 WARC 2m repeaters in the area, with the Bethungra repeater 50 kms away loud and clear. The 80 CB channels have already been programmed and the RR only needs connectors crimped to allow use of external dual band antennae (AZ507R and a stumpy HH-N2RS) and external power. My other son Justin (Grentarc) will be getting his licence at the same time.

Yes, I am planning on getting my licence too, with having it on my "to do" list for the last 15 or so years. I have a pair of Baofeng GT3-TP hand helds on the way.
I have had my full license since 2007, registered as PA5CAL (which incidentally is my first name; pascal)
Looking forward on building the TS-2000B I've had for years into my range and mounting the HI-Q 4/80 SS antenna on the front bar, which itself is still a work in progress.
I've done mobile work before mainly, no longer have any antenna's at home still do own one of those crank-up/tilt over towers.
Anyone know a good, bush capable VHF/UHF antenna that I can mount on the front bar that can take a beating?
