    UHF install - many questions.

    MY UHF RADIO

I'm not next to it at the moment, but I THINK I have one of these
    Northfield Car Sound
(or more probably the similar but earlier 3420 unit)

which is a remote head unit, but with speaker on the main body.

I'm looking to instal in in my D1.

Thing is I have a dash pod set up for single DIN radio, so obviously a single DIN front speaker radio would be ideal but I'm trying to save money.

The remote head unit can in fact be affixed to the front of the main body so that's not a real issue.

Is there a mounting kit that can allow one of these smaller UHF units to be mounted in a DIN sized hole? If so, anyone have a link?
    Edit: Found this: http://www.prestigecom.net.au/index....products_id=12
Would I also need a remote speaker to make this work?

UHF radios in general - 80 channel?

My radio is an older one and just the usual 40 channel though I had heard that UHF's have gone to (or will go to) an 80 ch set up. Hsas this happened yet? Do the old channel numbers coincide - eg the old ch 17 is still ch 17 on new 80ch sets?

That is - which is correct of these

    New channel Old Channel
    1 1
    2 2
    40 40
    41 (1.5)

    New channel Old Channel
    1 1
    2 (1.5)
    3 2

I hope that makes some sense...
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

    Hi Vlad

    I've got a GME tx3100 UHF 477 MHz CB Radios | GME it's 80 channels and yes ... Ch1 = Ch1, Ch2 = Ch2 and so on.

As far as mounting kits go ... I've seen windscreen mounts for the smaller ones.

    Cheers

Interesting. According to the Northfield site, the 3100 is a 40 channel set...

anyway my current 40ch radio is perfectly serviceable so I just bought teh adapter from gadgetcity for $27 with free shipping. Cheaper than anywhere else I could find online and good customer reviews for the shop.

Should make for a nice neat instal.

Yes ... It's upgradable to 80 with a code. Pretty simple.

    Ah I see.

Oh well $27 is cheaper than $280 so I'll just keep 40ch at the moment....

    Thanks all.

    NEXT QUESTION:

What do you all reckon is the best route for running the UHF aerial cable from the bullbar?

Need to get it right obviously as once its in (and plug soldered on) it can't be removed without cutting the plug off.

    Thanks

UHF cables are adversely affected by interference and distance between antenna and CB. Thus splash out on better quality cable with quality shielding that is suitable to your antenna frequency and shorter the length the better. Also try to avoid kinking the cable.

All antennas work better when they are not near a vertical metal surface i.e: A pillar; mounted on the bulbar horizontal surface so the antenna runs parallel to the bulbar upright or A frame; or within 70cm of another aerial.

That's what I learned over the past week researching antennas for my DAB stereo and UHF.

    cheers MLD

Thinking of the full run - where best to run the cable through the grille, where underbonnet etc.
