Icom IC450, Where to mount in a Puma?

    Hi everyone,

I've just bought an Icom IC450 UHF, the one with display and controls on the handpiece.
Im looking for ideas from people who have installed the same or similar radio, where the head unit can be mounted out of sight.

    Cheers
    Tom

I'm not using this unit as I mounted a GME to my Ex-box.
A few thoughts to get the ball rolling though...

There is room in behind the RHF speaker.
I've put my cruise control module in there.
Microphone lead length may be an issue if you want it in the centre of the beast though.

Also it may fit in behind what would be a LHDrive fuse box.
There is a vent tube to work around but I think it would fit.

Behind the centre dash panel(heater/radio/switches) on either side subject to size.
Have a look at Nuggets build thread for where he put his new double switch panel as it's behind there I'm thinking of.
I've got a USBport on the left and think there would be suitable space.

A few other spots to look at that probably are not ideal....
    Under a front seat.
    In the cubby box.
Front of the seat box under the matting.
    Cheers, Kyle

Thanks Kyle, you've obviously done some digging around your vehicle. Some good ideas there. Ideally, if I had an exbox I could mount the CB in there, then put a holesaw through the side somewhere and secure the lead with a cable gland.
But, I don't have an exbox. Yet.

Somewhere in the dash may still be the go. Easier to pick up a switched power supply too.

You can get extension mic cables if it is the newer telephone plug type. I gather brand doesn't matter but there are two types 6pin vs 8 pin. I ended up with a 1,8 metre one but I believe 2m is also available.

Same here. Mounted the bracket to the cubby with screws.

    Hi,
Ditto, but moved the cubby left an inch or so.
    Cheers
