    Desktop speakers

I'd like to add a subwoofer to my basic PC speakers,,
I have the normal motherboard 3.5mm subwoofer out,
but the powered sub I want to use came out of a 5.1 system and has one of these, see "From Main".
    still possible?

The sub is just a speaker, of course you can plug it in.
How many chanels/contacts/wires on the sub output? Two or three?
