Another option, pick a 2 year old android phone of your choice that was top end. Will now cost a third of what it did. My current is a note edge which is about to expire on a plan, rrp was $1400 now $478 on Ebay from BigW.

Tip for those who are locked into 24 month contracts with telstra... Make use of the Stay Connected service, will cost you $180 but you'll get a brand new phone if you've cracked the screen... My screen replacement cost was going to be $240.

Also last time i did it, they had ran out of the old Note 4's which I had so they gave me the newer Note Edge.

Dunno how I've succeeded, but SWMBO is happy with her new iPhone. - Battery appears good for a couple of days of 'Scrabble'. - Old one barely made it through the day and had to sleep on the charger...
    - Very welcome Good News for a week filled with bills and Bad News

Russ, you're correct. Latest junk mail ebay-teaser is full of new-old stock and (Korean) re-furbished Samsungs at realistic prices...

I don't really understand how the poster could not transfer contacts etc from an old I phone to a new one.

All you have to do is save the contents of the phone into I tunes ( on a PC or I guess Mac) and then reload them on a new phone.

It takes all of 10 minutes.

I just did it after i bought a time expired new Iphone 5s ( for $259 ) for my wife and transferred everything to it from her old 3GS.

    Wink

Just had one of these arrive in the mail today, bought it off ebay though, bit slow with the postage estimate, so far works as expected and very happy for the dollars, thanks for the tip!

$15 dearer, so $159 delivered in a week, happy enough with that.

No complaints so far, everything works brilliantly, great photo's, easy to use, just like my old Samsung, my wife reckons she'll get one when her I-phone dies.!

I bought the K4000 for my wife as an alternative to spending big $$$ outright on a phone and not wanting to go on a plan.
Its not perfect but is pretty fast with its quad core cpu and 2gig ram , battery life is probably its biggest advantage over equivalent smart phones.
The K4000 has a 4600mah battery and the K10000 which my brother bought has a whopping 10000mah battery which is good for nearly 2 weeks of running time.
For less than $120 delivered for the K4000 you cant go wrong, i have been giving it a run and the only real negatives i have found are the lack of a notification led and that fact that the charger port is on the top instead of the usual position on the bottom of the phone.

And how is this for a tough screen -

I can also recommend Oppo another Chinese brand, after buying one in Yangon 18 months ago. 16MP camera, dual sims, been faultless, really a Chinese Samsung. Paid $300 and have it on an $18 a month Woolworths prepaid plan.

No issues apart from a stuffed charger port which is due to my heavy handed wife who had it before me.

I had a Xiaomi MI4C for $120 delivered for a couple of years on a $10/month Vaya deal. It's still going strong (handed it up to my mum before Xmas last year). Zero issues with it to date.

Don't get me wrong, it doesn't have all the wizz bang features of modern phones, but as a stable smartphone with basic Google apps, you'd struggle to fault it.

I liked the phone so much, I dove in and bought their top of the line MI6 and am using it now. Again, no issues (apart from me dropping it and doing some slight damage to the screen glass!).
