    Radio for a series Landy

I just bought a GME GR300 with speakers and antenna. Thought it would be the ducks nuts as it is fully sealed so waterproof and dust proof.
That may be so but performance here is woefull . On scan it only picks up our local station 50 k away.
I will have to ditch it and get something else.
Anyone have ideas on a good aftermarket set AM FM and maybe CD player that has a chassis that can be installed in any car and with a fascia etc to make a neat job and can pick up stations more than 100 k away?

I've not seen one of this GME model but it is from a quality company that should have backup - have you checked your antenna installation and does it have a tuning adjustment for the antenna? Other matters to check include suppression and system earthings.

Maybe a call to GME may assist.

An alternative could be one of these robust little things of which hundreds have been sold

No blue tooth or CD but has input jack & I think, SD card

And you'd have to sort out your own antenna

Yes, contacted GME and the dealer I bought it from. No reply yet. I thought they were good too, hence buying it. No antenna tuning device, just plug and play.

Sometimes there is an unlabelled slothead screw somewhere on the rear, sides, top or bottom for antenna adjustment but I would expect it to be mentioned in the instructions if it was there, it will be interesting what GME come back with. I hope it works out well.

The GR 300, isn't that a marine application? Don't know what difference, if any, it would make, but wondering.

Yes its made for boats as its sealed and waterproof. Comes with a bracket to fix under a dash etc.Waterproof speakers as well.
The Hipaka for Hitachi,s excavators etc sound OK but is made to fit into a housing. Series dont have that so thats why I picked the GME.
The old Sony in the 92 Disco picks up 612 4QR ABC from Brisbane here no problem but the GME does not get a signal at all.

Contacted them and a helpfull sort of bloke. Said if I bought one and it was no better I could send it back.
They need a housing to fit into where the GME has a bracket to attatch under the dash etc.
The GME has Bluetooth but of no use to me as I dont have a smartphone but it has a socket to plug a player into as well.
The Komatsu one has a socket also.

I have fitted a cheap Aldi radio to my 2a, making a panel for it that hangs below the instrument panel above the red gearlever. This radio has no disc drive etc, but does have a USB socket that plays MP3s from a tiny thumb drive. It is half depth, so it fits comfortably, and seems to perform adequately. While it is not waterproof, it seems to survive OK, and having virtually no moving parts means it is pretty immune to dust.

Don't forget that how good your reception is will be very dependent on how good an antenna you have.

I've got the M1W antenna shown at the bottom of this page. the M2W Is the AM/FM version of what I've got. My radio is a cheap Sony unit (which also has shortwave, hence my choice of the M1W antenna) about $80.00. With that antenna, I can hear Sydney local radio or Radio national all the way to Wagga Wagga.
I'd agree with there being something wrong somewhere.

    Don.
