Ipod Adapters

I also went down the path of looking at iPod solution for my D2. Controllers, converters etc to use with the CD changer loom. Gave up in the end. Too expensive, or to few head units to fit the D2. Didnt like the control interface for the CD changer loom>ipod units. etc etc.

Ended up buying a $50 FM modulator from supercr@p, installing that in behind the glove box, and modded my ASHTRAY with an old iPod dock. Now i have GREAT ipod sound. (the FM modulator is WAY better than any FM transmitter i've used). and still retain my CD changer, and original casette / radio unit.

I'll get around to posting the pics of the surgery I performed. (when I do the final tidy up) :)

Land Rover do supply a ipod cable for the current Defender, however at 650 bucks fitted, its a bit steep, for 300 bucks alpine do a nice unit with fly away ipod wire, etc....

Theres no genuine adapter for any LR with Ipod or Mp3 (as far as I know) but I continually have the question asked by customers, especially with new Disco 3's and Rangies. Manufacturers like Volvo (my other specialty :twisted: ) are now starting to produce add on modules which hard wire into the radio system and allow full control of the Ipod by the cars stereo/steering wheel controls (but their not yet availiable in Australia so we dont know the specifics)

Personally I use a battery operated FM modulator for my car which cost 50 bucks from DSE ... plug it in, tune to the station and away you go. Take it with you into another car.

Just wondering what other people are using and how well they work with Land Rover radios, any problems or suggestions. I am wanting to start suggesting a tried and tested brand or model FM modulator ... I think their all pretty much the same, but at least if I know a few people are using them I'd feel more comfortable recommending them to customers, especially customers who've never owned a Land Rover before and we're trying to keep happy with their purchase (until the service!!)

Any single DIN head unit will fit :cool:
