I think you'll find that with the NBN most, if not all ISPs will charge an additional fee to have a phone/number associated to the provided service.

Thanks, nice to know. Brain was assuming everyone was on Telstra until an NBN change over.

As mentioned, no. It comes with the package I have which is connected via the landline so that’s why it’s available and there is all - doesn’t cost anything extra - it’s a use it or not type thing. I pay $85 a month for unlimited data at 100 mbps - and I get 90 odd most of the time so i’m one if the very small minority that has a good NBN connection.

We were one of the first houses signed up in our area when it went live. Given our line length we were ecstatic to see downstream speeds in excess of 40K. Of course since that point it has been all downhill.

In 10 years of ADSL we had a combined total of about 4 hours down time in 3 outages. With the NBN we've seen that pretty much every month. The only "bonus" was being able (having) to cancel our Telstra fixed line and the consequential complete stop of all charities, "Microsoft support line", solar hawkers and "surveys of people in your area". I do miss the last one as the responses to "Oh really? What area am I in?" were often amusing.

I'm not particularly impressed. I think it was poorly conceived, poorly executed, and poorly supported from both sides of the house. I'd say hindsight is 20/20, but these issues were being raised long before the first contracts were signed.

Having said that, whilst orders of magnitude less reliable, we are getting some 10x the speed we had while on ADSL.

Not on my plan directly - I didn’t want not need a home phone but for a fixed line service like mine it all comes together and isn’t an option to have or not have it - the charge may be built in but it can’t be removed either and there’s no line item for it on the bill.

Keeping copper in the system was a big mistake. Very unreliable. Should have just been all fibre, like the rest of the world.

We just had to have a tech repair both the street box and the house connection here in Maleny, where we don't even have NBN.

When we did have NBN in Brisbane, the copper connection at the road was faulty and had to be replaced.

Fibre would have avoided all that.
