Install done today, about 1 hr all up. I helped the bloke with location of points and i fitted the wall plate while he ran the cable from the foxtel box in the carport under the floor to the PC/modem location, i mounted the UNI-D while he activated the service. VOIP phone is yet to be activated, i'm on a low speed plan which is still 4x the best speed i ever got on ADSL2+.

Last night I'm sure I saw the ceo of NBN saying NBN has been ramped up by 40% capacity to meet the needs of increased home use.

If this can be done now , why wasn't it available in the first place?

Probably because backbone capacity was not required or being paid for before now. One of the bottlenecks that the NBN could address is backbone capacity which may have been impacted by ISPs only purchasing what their actual data requirements are which would have ramped up as consumers use more of their unlimited plan or consume excess data.

Out consumption has gone up a bit over the previous 4 days with four of us working at home (2 kids and two adults)

If it has then it hasn't reached here yet & me imagining it is like a hose filling a trench slowly, slowly, & then the bugger suddenly overflows. I bet that doesn't happen either.

I note my local download speed is still about 35MBPS, down nothing from before hand.

However an email sent at 1PM to my own address from Gmail took until 9PM to be delivered, so I think there is a lot of congestion at the ISP level.

    Regards PhilipA

I've noticed that post alert emails are pretty slow today so that would make sense

I am the 1st to admit I am not very good with computers & all that stuff , if it dose not work when I switch it on it is time to get some one to look at it.

Well , we were connected to the NBN back in February & since then it has been a nightmare. Countless calls to our provider , countless visits by tech's who all told me there was nothing wrong. The provider cranking our speed up to max . I eventually sent message to CEO of our provider who told me to just run a wire from the modern in family room down hallway to the the study to connect the computer ( this being a trip hazard) This did not fox the smart TV one & a half meters from the modem. We had a computer guy in to fix a problem with the computer to printer connection & he told me to buy a Wi-fi mesh & the best one to buy . After setting this up the computer was better but not 100% but Netflix had become almost impossible to watch most days were we were watching the arrow going around & around then watching the show. So yesterday I had a private company come in to see what they could do., hour & a half later looks like it is all fixed. Well worth the $129 they charged us , Our speed at all points when he left was 102 Mbps up , 33 Mbps down. The guy said if we are having any more problems to get onto our provider , our local MP & the ombudsman , the Gov has announced that people having problems will have fibber run into there house to fix any problems. Early days yet but so far looking good.

Yes, massive back flip on this and it may (I'm still skeptical) result in something better than the trash they have rolled out since axing fibre to the premises.
