    Reverse camera screen with diagnostics?

    Hello good people.

My bride has determined that we need a reverse camera on the Defender.

Trolled the forum and found some great tips.

What I am thinking though, if I am going to clutter up the cabin with a monitor for the camera, can it also display diagnostic data?

Ideally something like a nanocom but can accept a camera input and trigger.

    Any thoughts?

    Cheers Ben

I'm similar in that I hate clutter, so I try to keep stuff to a minimum too.

You don't say what year your Defender is.
I just had a quick peek and it seems in about '06-07 the Defender became OBDII compliant .. so an OBDII wireless dongle on the port and a acceptably sized tablet as it's output .. which could allow a wireless camera to be hooked up.

if your Deefer is non OBDII, there could still be some viable options for 'ya to maintain clutterless instrumentation and rear cam possibilities.

Thanks Arthur, that's an interesting idea.

Defender is a MY13 wagon which is OBD11 I believe. Will head off down the wireless route and see what turn up.

    Thanks

Yep, should be OBDII(Aussie rules) so you could go with a cheapo OBDII adapter.
I got one of ebay years ago for my Frontera which works perfectly.
Also works on my '99 model D2(V8) too.
Then you'd get a (eg) 7" tablet, mount it to somewhere and source a decent quality USB rear camera .. or something like that.

If you go Android tablet(can be had cheap), you also have some good options for Nav too(eg. Ozi for Android, or some of the free OSM apps, with an OSM Aus map loaded onto a mSD card(that way you're not reliant on a connection to the net for map data) ..

    etc. etc..
