Lousy AM reception in my D3.

I have a D3 SE model, with the poverty pack radio.
I am an avid listener to the ABC, and in SA, that means AM.
I am finding the reception on the D3 less than average and am wondering if there is somewhere I can plug in a "real aerial" for better reception.
I know there is an amplifier/booster or something in the back above the driver side rear window.
I'm not an electronic genius when it comes to radios, but I do remember (in the good old days) that a longer aerial got better reception.
Is there any way of connecting a "normal" aerial to the LR radio??? I'll figure where to put it if it's possible to plug one in somewhere. Maybe the back of the radio???

Check that you don't have something digital such as a GPS, camera, phone adaptor, etc that is generating AM interference. I don't know about that particular installation, but I would be very surprised if it does not have a standard antenna connection at the back.

I suspect that a lot of the problem is that AM has been "de-emphasised" over the last couple of decades, and not only do mny cars generate a lot more RF noise than would have been acceptable historically, but the radio receivers tend to be pretty bad on AM as well.

I have the same car and radio and find the am reception is excellent. For example I get good reception of ABC 726 and 891 well past Salt Creek on trips to Robe. My Waeco CF50 fridge however causes annoying interference reducing the clear reception range to about 80km. - only when it cycles on at the most interesting moment of the program.

So I suspect there is a fault in your system.

    cheers

Thanks - I guess it is time to pull everything out and unplug/replug everything and see if it sorts anything out.

    Hi,
May not be the same radio in a Defender, but I found in the settings that mine was set to European frequencies.
Changed it to Australian and reception improved.
Not that I turn it on very often, it must be years since I listened to radio.
    Cheers
