OziExplorer and Samsung Galaxy Tab A

    Bloody technology!

I have installed Ozi on the above device (my old tablet with Ozi died) and I can't just open Ozi as it wants me to install it or its updates each time, then open. No biggy but I should be able to go straight to Ozi. Any clues oh knowledgeable ones?

ALso, with moving map operating when the pointer reaches the limit of the map it should automatically open the next adjoining one. It doesn't. Any ideas as I've gone through the setup and configuration stages a number of times. Sending an email to Ozi doesn't seem to get any response.

need to go to the configure tab. General settings will fix the updates, and moving map the other. Also I found when i updated to a new tablet I had to get a new password as the old one would nit work. I just emailed the person on the web site. Also had the same issue with Wikicamps

    Thanks Dirvine.
Yes, I did get a new password and will try your suggestions again.

Can't help with the update/install issue, but as dirvine mentioned maybe disable the check for updates setting in General Settings.

Also in General Settings is the file path options for your Maps(and Data).

If the location you stored your maps aren't the same as the Map File Path option, then it won't know what map is the next one to load.
Also make sure Index Maps on OziExplorer Start is enabled in General Settings too.
If maps aren't indexed, Ozi won't know what maps you have available to load as you move.

There aren't any settings in the Moving Map Configuration area to help with either of those issues.

Sometimes the issue could be due to the SD card all the data is on. Unless you've specifically installed Ozi on the devices internal memory, it's installed on the SD Card.
What I sometimes do is to save all the data I need off the card, clear it/format it/wipe it, exFAT is the better file system type if the card is large enough.
You can do that on the Tablet or via a PC.
Also run an error check on the card too. (on a PC, rightclick the inserted card, select Properties, select the Tools Tab, look for the Error Checking box).

What version of Android is your Tab A running?

I was going to suggest map indexing, it will run a scan and index the maps so it knows which one to load after you reach the end of the tile.

OK, so you won't/don't have OS issues writing to the card, some versions of Android had changed to not allow programs writing directly to the ext card .. but it changed quickly. 6.0 isn't affected by that problem.

So from this point, I'd be looking to check the SD card for issues/errors/problems.
Or uninstall Ozi from the device and re-install, removing all old references/preferences to the old install.

BTW: my Galaxy tab is an older v4.3 version of Android, and up to a specific version of Ozi, I had no trouble at all.
But I think it was about v1.25 where I updated it, and then started having trouble with Ozi staying active(ie. on) and it'd randomly just switch itself and the tablet off.
I chased answers from the Ozi support team, but my emails got ignored. They then updated a gain a few times, I think v1.28 worked properly(ie. no shut downs), and I dropped the issue. But they updated again to v1.29, and the random shut down issue reared itself again.
Uninstalled and back to v1.28 again, but the problem still persisted with 1.28 now too!

One last question to confirm the working of Ozi itself for you.
If you open a map manually, and you know there are other maps that adjoin or overlay the loaded map, what happens if you use the 'find map feature' in Ozi?
That is, you have a 25K map of an area, and you also have a 250K map of the area too. If you use the find maps feature in Ozi, it should give you the option of two maps for that location(ie. one at 25K and the other at 250K).
In reality you may have more maps pertaining to the area, so you may have more than two options for maps at the area the cursor is currently set too.
Note that this is different to load map/load recent map.

Find map only works properly if Ozi has indexed all the maps you have told it to index.

    More tech stuff:

Do you have Ozi on the PC? If so, can you double check the calibration of the map(s).
The moving map system relies on a set of parameters in the .map file that tell the program at what exact points the map should be changed to the next map.

You can open the .map file with a simple text editor to view the contents of the file. It's just text. Notepad is as good as any program to open a .map file with.
When you open the .map file, you see a lot of gobbeldygook data.
The specific lines of data you're looking for are near the end of the text data.

Look for lines starting with MMPXY, <number> there should be for entries, MMPXY 1 to 4.
This is the data Ozi reads to know at what point in the map the map needs to be changed to the next one in the direction of travel.
The numbers after the comma and again after the single digit integer, refer to pixel location in the map file itself.

eg. MMPXY,1,434,268 this line refers to the Moving Map parameter that at pixel location 434-268(in the X-Y plane) is one boundary point at where the map needs to be changed to the next map.

if your map is physically larger than the MMPXY pixel points, it doesn't move to the next map until you have travelled farther into the map(ie. at the edge of the map image boundary.

Below the MMPXY data lines, will be the actual physical size of the map.
Look for the line IWH, Map Image Width/Height, and two numbers after the comma. example numbers could be 4700,5700.

That is, the actual size of the map is 4700 pixels across, and 5700 pixels vertically.

If MMPXY, 1 numbers are set to 0,0 then the point at which the map moves to the next map are at the very edge of the map, which may not be the same as where the image of the map is of any use .. ie. there could be hundred of pixels of whitespace.

if none of that makes any sense, if you upload a .map file(if need be rename it as a .txt file), I can have a peek to see how it's setup.

    Hope that helps.
    Arthur.

    Thanks Arthur ....... I think!

I'm afraid most of that is gobbledegook to me.

Yes there are more maps available for each area and some open and others don't. I think I can put up with what it's doing until I find someone locally who has more of a clue than I ie probably a 5 year old. Some of us should stay the hell away from technology.

    LOL!

If you can locate one of the maps that seems to be causing problem(where it doesn't auto change to the next map) and save a copy of the .map file.
That is, the maps are stored in a folder(Maps) with both a image file(.jpg, or ozf3, ozf4 or whatever) AND a file with the same name, but with a .map extension.

eg. say you have a map called Tamworth. That means you have a Tamworth.jpg or Tamworth.ozf3(or 4) AND another file named Tamworth.map.

The .map file tells Ozi the geopositioing specifics of the map image that you see on screen.
The actual image you see is just that, an image. The .map file tells the program that for the image displayed, which is X,Y big(in pixels), you are here(in a manner of speaking) and places your cursor location at the correct point on the image.

so if you can locate a problem .map file, rename it to whatever.txt and upload it here, I can have a quick read and see if it's borders are set to the very edge of the map(as is normal) or if it's set to the point of the map that is relevant.

I have thousands of maps that need recalibrating so that as I drive along, they switch map once the location reaches a relevant point on the map.
These maps are scanned maps .. as in typical paper maps with a wide border, so as I drive the map still stays active on screen, and I'm driving on the whitespace border, not on the next map in the detail mapped area.

Do you have Ozi on a PC?
If not, and you do have a PC, even the trial version will be of help.

Also: which map/s are you using. I have hundred of gigabytes of maps myself, I may have a map to suit your area of interest.
I could somehow get a couple of properly calibrated maps to you so that you could test if the moving map-map changing part works or not.

    Arrrrrrg!

Yes I have Ozi on my pc but not with the same maps, which have all been supplied by a mate who is no longer with us (selfish sod).

Once the pointer runs off the map it does as you say continue on the white border until I map up or down for it to find the next then it continues on its merry way until running off that one etc.

She'll be right and thanks so much for your input.
