    CB / Intercom / bluetooth / VHF?

I have a intercom for my perentie but it's cheap and a bit rubbish, lots of interference and only bodged in ear headsets.

I was contemplating an upgrade with propper cans and bluetooth integration for music streaming (yes all a bit techno for a Perentie), I was looking at this RRP696 2-Place Intercom with 60 Watt Radio and BTU Headsets [696-2P-BTU-60W] - $1,696.00 : Rugged Radios: Headsets, Intercoms, 2-Way Racing Radios and Communication for UTV, Motorcycles, Offroad, Circle Track, Aviation, Racing, NASCAR, Police, and more...

I thought a radio kit would be good to get PTT, but that radio is a 60w VHF, am I right in assuming that that is NOT the same as what we call a CB? IF so is it worth even having one? does anyone here use one? also are they legal to use in Australia.

It's not what we call CB debruiser, for CB in Oz we have low powered 27mhz HF (not much used these days) and then we have low powered UHF (short range), any falling outside these freqs require licences ($$s) and are otherwise illegal - it could be stopped at the border if it was discovered. There can be big penalties for using unlicenced transmitters

Apart from the regulatory downsides is it big $$s and you probably won't have anyone to talk to as most people won't have the frequencies of that radio.

Apologies for putting the kybosh on what was looking like a good solution.

Personally I'd steer WELL clear of them. I very much doubt that they have any type of Australian approval.

Buried in Rugged Radio's web site it says that they operate between 136 and 174 MHz. In that slice of the spectrum you have (among others) Amateur Radio, Police and Emergency Services, Air Services and the Military. Cause interference, however minor, to any of them and the ACMA will come after you with a very big stick indeed.

That VHF radio operates between 150-174Mhz so totally useless in Aus unless your talking to someone in a boat ..... (It is actually covers the marine VHF range)

From what I can see VHF is used for some of the off road sports in the good ol' U S o A
