Warn winch electrics - winch not spooling out, controller lead get hot

    Hi guys

I have a warn XD9000pd winch on the front of my 130. It's an old winch but has been working well. It has a new motor and all internals are freshly greased, but i've never touched the solenoids.

i am unable to winch out using power, and today noticed that the lead on the hand controller got extremely hot.

just wondering if anyone knows how to test if a solenoid has failed or the switch on the controller is stuffed.

The winch spools in ok on power and the lead of the controller does not get hot.

    Thanks

Iirc there’s three wires to activate. 1 neutral and one active to field F1, and one to F2 .which will be you will be switching running forward of reverse.
Can you open the controller and swap the wires over, that should tell you if the faults in the controller 5-Wire Remote Wiring Diagram: winchserviceparts.com warn winch controller wiring diagram - Google Search

    Thanks Fitzy

I think it's a dud solenoid. I've replace the suspect solenoid and all seems to be working
