Exclamation MadMan EMS 2 unit to be replaced by colour screen EMS 3 unit

Haven't seen a previous mention of this on here previously, but as many of us currently use the MadMan EMS products thought it worth a share.

The old EMS 2 has been discontinued to be replaced by the incoming EMS 3 < https://docs.wixstatic.com/ugd/6b43f...a76f4f5c8a.pdf >. Looks to be a progressive update that's fairly similar but with a colour screen allowing more display options etc.

Sadly they've changed the mounting shape so that it's not as simple as just unbolting the old and bolting in the new - I think this is a lost opportunity by them.

The EMS 1 is also at end of it's life and being updated in due course.

I was all set to buy one, until availability date was confirmed as about 5 weeks away, and I head off in 2 weeks.
Compliments to Jan at Nata (AU distributor) for trying though.

Making the size a bit smaller to fit standard 52mm/2" was a positive and logical step overall.

Any idea what the cost is?

I'm thinking of replacing mine EMS2, and have taken a liking to the 1Gauge (1Gauge), particularly it's ability to log data and view multiple sensors at the same time (which EMS3 can now do, but not sure if the screen is big enough). I've been holding off on the 1Gauge hoping they update to a higher resolution screen, but still no luck.

I remember contemplating either the MadMan or the 1Gauge, and some others I can't remember the brands now .. and went with the 1Gauge(D1 Tdi).
Very easy to fit(used 5 core trailer lead), the ability to mount the box in one place and the screen somewhere else is great.
In the D1 I mounted it up in the roof 'console' perfect spot and fit for it.
Back then 1Gauge only had the blue screen option, and I emailed him asking if he could, or had any plans to develop other screens.
He replied next day with no plans too, and a year later did!
I asked if he could do a white on black screen, but he did a black on white and yellow on green.

one of my two complaints(or more accurately, feature wishes!) was a less bright screen ability.
In every day driving everything from bright daytime, to night time driving, it's good.
My only issue with it is at night is on pitch black dark road/trails, where you want the ability to have the interior as dark as possible to minimise glare inside the vehicle, it's just a tad too bright.
A white on black screen would be perfect for this situation.

Have to say it's been great to use, and diagnose stuff(like heating up cooling system), so the logging is useful.
Only downside to the logging is no 'real time clock ability' ... so the log file(CSV format) is useful but can be 'overwhelming'.
The timing for the sensor data is about 5secs(haven't looked into the ability to tweak this).
So when you view the data, you have to estimate at roughly what time/day/week/year/etc, the data happened.
With some help from here, I worked out a way to make more sense of the 'overwhelming' logged data it produces in a spreadsheet, then graph it.
So emailed him again, asking if he had any plans to update the box with one that could access a clock system(eg. mobile phone, or anything) .. just to make the logging easier to deal with.
    he replied no.
Once again, a year or so later(now!) he seems to have an update coming of something .. my guess is the box.

The box is the brains. Screen connects via s std cheapo ethernet cable. He supplies everything you need except adapters to fit the sensors if required. He supplies std ethernet(typical round cable type eth), and it's hard to bend it for sharp corners and tuck it behind some panels and fascias. So I bought some cheap flat eth cable(about 2m) to run from the roof console to the drivers side fuse box compartment. Much easier with the flat eth cable, as opposed to trying to stuff the cable supplied. Cost $2.

I reckon to fully fit the setup would take about 3-4hrs depending on how fussy you are on screen placement and fit and finish.
This assumes you have all the adapters you need. I didn't.
Took me a few days to organise all this, but I estimate 2 hrs all up to fit it all(over 3 or so days).

Note it has the ability to activate alarms(2 of) and relays(2 of) .. so is a lot more flexible than immediately obvious.

Highly recommended .. and I prefer to support an Aussie bit of gear to boot(where it makes sense too).
    Arthur.

I agree for new installations. But for those that have the old unit and already made the weird holes for mounting it's a bit. Some sort of adapter offering perhaps could have been beneficial?
