The reason i ask is we did a test yesterday,i can get range everywhere on the property using the Telstra phone with plugged in antenna,on roof rails.

The neighbours cel Fi,antenna bar mounted,dropped out where i had range in some areas.

But the Cel Fi is much more convenient than what i have.

Can I ask about the cost of the car install - is it different?

Don't know cost,but the ones the neighbours have are from a guy in Toowoomba.
He mounts them in a robust plastic box,and it fits behind the seat of the LC tray back,quite a neat well done job.
Then there is the power, ariel on the bull bar, and the other antenna that is in the vehicle cab,under the dash.

pretty easy to DIY if you want to.

Installed one in my work caravan 2 years ago. On many work sites it is the difference between having no comms & full comms. I have a NextG modem installed in my van which then gets it's signal from the CelFi. A normal wifi extender then extends the modem's wifi signal into the pump stations where I work & I use wifi calling on my phone to make normal calls or access the internet via laptop etc.

Would highly recommend.

I had the kit supplied and fitted myself.

Bar mounted antenna with the inside unit under the seat and the internal antenna under the dash (so the firewall shields it from the outside unit).

A quick google tells me RRP is around $1k

I should install one into my work car as others get so frustrated no being able to get in contact. I only answer the phone if there is a minimum 2 bars, anything less just send to voice mail.

I did try the mobile phone antenna on the defer and the phone sits in a cradle but didn’t see much improvement and have ditched it.

For general touring or the big lap I dont reckon I would bother.

As you may or may not know I hate Telstra with a passion, I worked there for 30 years and I left when the downhill spiral started. Last straw came in the last week when I discovered my phones with Aldi sim cards ( on the Telstra network) had no coverage in Western NSW and SW QLD Towns , when they worked honki dori on our last trip.

I remember getting an Aldi email earlier in the year that Telstra were taking a frequency away from them to use on the 4G network. So the penny dropped.

Into Longreach Aldi & Optus come to life again , so after promising myself I'd never go back to Telstra I begrudgingly go buy myself a $2 prepaid sim and a pocket modem so can at least get data (at 3 x the cost) anywhere that I could on may last trips with Aldi sim.

Long story short Telstra stuffed up the activation on the prepaid sim I bought and after 72 hours and 5 online chat sessions still isn't activated (and I loaded $30 credit on it) , the idiots in Manilla have no idea, supposed to take 4 hours max, Aldi do it in 5 minutes flat. Bought a 2nd Telstra sim this morning and it fired up within an hour, mustve got someone in Bombay .

Anyway to get back on topic , In for a penny, in for a pound, I also Bought a Cell Fi today from Access Communications in Longreach , $950 & $215 for a appropriate 4G/LTE RFI antenna, and not a cent of that going to Telstra , its a proper Nextivity Authorised unit by RFI Australia but unfortunately locked to the Telstra network .

I was hoping it would boost my Aldi service but makes no difference, I dont know how it knows because its using the Telstra network, Sitting in Longreach caravan park (within sight of the tower) With the Telstra Simcard in my pocket modem unboosted gets 3.89 upload/ 2.88 download, with CelFi on it gets 10.0 up , 5.0 down, The Aldi sim gets 6.95 up & 1.2 down wether the CelFi is on or off.

The big test will be when we are out in the bush again.

Fully licensed with Telstra - application Made through company

I installed it myself!

Standing on top of roof I can get 1 bar 3G
With a 7m mast off that roof with a directional antennae
Feeding the cel fi unit we get solid 4G throughout the house

Was about a gorilla with no install cost but we used the biggest directional antennae
Which bumped the cost. To be honest I wouldn’t bother paying for install
It’s all plug and play and the App helps tune everything.


Only drawbacks have been as mentioned above. It ONLY boosts Telstra signal and only specific frequencies at that. Older handsets even if they are Telstra sometimes don’t work.
And as mentioned by OP there is the risk that in a few years your new handset won’t work????


We are on silly expensive slow satellite NBN ;(

Boosted 4G is always 3-5 times faster than NBN
But obviously mobile Data is still way too exe to just run on Cel FibGo
