That is a fitting kit not a head unit which this thread is about. What head unit have others fitted that works in the early L320 and meets the requirements I have outlined.

I am not prepared to reinvent the wheel and get something that may not be suitable - hence asking for advice from people who have done it before but it would seem that no one has done it. Most of the D3 installations discuss using the command screen which I do not have.

    Thanks for your input.

Gary, get the fitting kit then decide on a head unit. If you don't want any of the cheap units then any double din will fit.
If you look at the Eonon or Joying websites you'll see what i mean with the 9-10" screens, they protrude about 1cm forward then expand to full width.
Most have a tilting function so you can get a better angle but I think the RRS position is better than in a D3 as it's higher up and angled towards the dash.

    FOR EXAMPLE -

Eonon 10.1 Inch Android 10 Universal Double Din Car Stereo

Thanks for that information - I just had a look at both - your example has the screen sticking out and covers the switches above the radio which I dont want but other Eonon and Joying units may be suitable but I dont know - measuring the space available the max integrated screen size would be about 7".

    Cheers

The aftermarket screens that fit in the factory spot of the D3, fit the RRS as well.

Ok thanks - do you have a recommendation - noting the following:

    • a reasonable quality unit,
    • with the biggest possible screen that is fully integrated into the dash where the current unit sits.
    • I need rear camera input, bluetooth, modern turn by turn GPS system (I currently use Garmin) ability to use offroad maps like Hemma so I guess the ability to load software like Oziexplorer,
    • decent sound and ideally compatibility with the standard amp under the drivers seat that I currently have (I believe this is optical) - if possible t
    • he unit needs to be compatible with my current steering wheel controls. - volume, mode selections etc

    Cheers

I've mentioned it before but if you want to run apps independent of your phone you will need an android OS and 7" is the largest flush fitting screen size you can fit. Wheel controls can be used and even extra functions added like a short press for one function and a long press for another.
