Replacing the head unit in my 2006 D3 - some prepurchase advice needed!

I've decided to replace the radio/CD unit in my 2006 D3.
The fitted unit is the poverty pack radio with no extra amp or anything special, but I do have steering wheel controls fitted.
Everything currently works fine, and I'm an avid ABC AM listener, and the (poor AM) reception quality of the fitted radio has finally gotten to me!!!!!!!
So I figure i need the aerpro kit FP9290K for the interface.
I'm not looking for DVD movies or GPS in the unit, and whilst I have an Android phone I'm also not fussed with Android auto. But I do want a CD player (yes, I'm old school) and blue tooth for the phone.
I'd like to get DAB+ but am struggling to find DAB+ and CD player in one unit - maybe its a problem with old and new technologies!!
At this stage, I think I want a Pioneer AVHA245BT, which does not have DAB+.
Does anyone have any other suggestions for a head unit to suit??? I'm not too fussed with price.
I'm also a little confused with the aerpro site saying I also need either an APP8 or APP9 patch lead????????
Anyone have any clues on this???
I'm not a stereo or electronic engineer but I think I'm capable of swapping the units over if its all plug and play.
I'd welcome any feedback from others on what I want to do.

With the aerpro kit you only then need your choice of head unit and the patch lead to mate it to the aerpro ISO plugs.
Plenty of head units to choose from.

Is your poor AM reception caused by the radio or the aerial in the back window? I would be including a proper external aerial and signal booster in your head unit change over.

Yup, that is already on the list! But I am not sure where the DAB+ signal is received - I am assuming that it is from whatever aerial is fitted.

Dab uses a different antenna to the am/FM ones.

Thanks all - going with a Kenwood DDX9020DABS with the appropriate mounting and patch kit.
Will decide on DAB aerial when it arrives - I have an external one and also one stuck inside the windscreen.
Just have to wait for all the bits to arrive!
