if you clear the startup message there is no beep at startup. it only beeps if you have a startup message.
you need to leave all the other beep settings alone as they are for ctss etc etc etc..

I bought the IC-440 for the new Defender to drive back with. Great unit as all the functions are in the hand set (including the speaker). It too has the startup BEEP. Sure is loud:mad:
I used to have a 400 pro, (now have 621), and have programmed some (I still have the cloning (to program frequencies etc) and the adjusting (to change calibrations) software.
The beeb can be turned off with the cloning software.
The default tx (transmit) power can be changed to 25W on the cb bank, but the firmware (which can't be changed) will change the default back to 5W once you use the front panel buttons to toggle the tx power. If you want 25W to be always available (useful in hilly timbered country) it is best to program a 2nd bank with the 40 cb frequencies.
The other adjustment that users should make is to change the default squelch level, which prevents receiving a lot of weak signals. From memory this can be done from the front panel, but is also configurable with the cloning software.
The adjusting software is not required unless you want to increase tx power beyond 25W. This software allows you to stuff up a good radio if you don't know what you are doing, and don't have appropriate instruments.
