Stereo as a UHF external speaker

    Hi all,

Just had a chat with my brother in law and we both concluded that using a stereo with line-in or similar functionality to run as an external speaker for a UHF might be a good idea as that would reduce clutter and the need for another speaker just for the UHF.

Is there anyone here who's done that or knows of potential problems in a setup like that?

Looking at GME's website they now have car stereos but neither one of the two models mention anything about plugging in a UHF...

    Hi Turtle61

I have personally not done that before but I don't imagine it would be as simple as plug and play. I'm pretty sure the speaker output impedance on the uhf will not match the input of the car stereo unit.

    mmm...you've got me thinking now..

I looked into it. In my case I was looking at the input for the car kit. When your phone rings the ring and the conversation comes over the speakers. So the UHF could come over the speakers and silence the radio. Is it possible? Of course it is, but it would drive you mental. The relay also took some time to drop out and return to stereo.
I don't think you are saving alot of space by not installing an external speaker if needed!

You can match impedance with transformers. This might be helpful
