Problem with GME tx3200

In line glass fuseholders and the fuses are hopeless - the holders can get dirt in them, the fuses can fail through vibration and it's not obvious from looking at them. Suggest you replace the whole thing with an automotive blade fuseholder and fuse

Also maybe get and learn how to drive a multimeter - it will save you no end of hassles when tracing these sorts of problems.

Yes, I'm pretty sure there is only the one fuse.
The aerial cable is permanently fixed into the aerial. Routing of the cable usually has to be done all the way from the aerial point (that's why it's such a pain if you change bullbars or mounts, the cable has to be pulled right back out, or cut and re-joined).

But if there is not even a light on the LCD then it must be power.

Well I got new fuses today. I put the new one in, and It turned on for about 2 seconds or less. Does this sound like the unit itself or the wiring?

Do you have access to another transmitter? (It's always handy to have one of those cheap chinese handhelds) Try transmitting a signal - at close range (Like 2 meters away), your CB will still recieve a signal without the antenna connected at close range. That will confirm that the radio is still working and you have an antenna fault.

Also check the obvious - Squelch/Mute and Volume controls.


Edit: Ooops - just read your last post - sounds like a power issue - you may need an expert to look at it.

Guessing you still have an issue with the wiring somewhere. You need to get a multimeter ( from Bunnings or Supercheap only about $15 ) and check if you are getting 12.5V to the power plug on your radio. Measure between the + and - pins of the connector, not between + and earth. If there is a good 12.5V there it is probably something wrong with the radio. Needs to be put on a service bench. If not trace back to see where the problem is.

Do you run both + and - leads from the radio direct to your battery ? If not I would vouch you have a problem in the earth (-) return. Run a solid black wire from the radio - pin direct to your battery.

Thanks for that advice. I didnt install it and have never traced the wires to see how its installed. I will have a closer look at it on Wednesday, when I have some spare time.

Radio fixed! The connection to the radio was dirty, even though it looked as clean as new.

I still inted to do the blade fuse thing. Is it simply a case of cutting out the old inline glass fuse and soldering in the new holder?
