My 2c worth is that uniden radios are way cheaper and do the same job, local indipendant supplier of 2 way gear to mines etc (and they repair all makes and models) says that the Uniden models are better quality????? I nearly bought an Icom or another Japanese make( cant think of the name) used by law enforcement etc, very very good unit, nothing to look at though but very heavy in comparison to GME and uniden.
The owner told me that the out put is a true 5w meaning they are clearer and work properly.;)
Thats why i ended up with the uniden (Din size unit) $245 all up, cheap and works!!!. The GME was $367 best price for a similar radio.
I would get a GME anntenae though they are really good, I thought 4.5Db gave the best shaped bubble not as linea as the 6Db I stand to be corrected though.
Good luck

Yes that's correct. Simplistically, hi-gain have a longer, thinner pattern that put the signal over the top of the hills creating a shadow. Lower gain have a shorter fatter spread that spills over the side of the hill.
3-4.5 dB gain are ideal for mountainous areas.

Good choice...
GME are a far sturdier unit than Unidens dismal offerings...
Had several Unidens fail, usually poor joints on the board or connectors failing..
The 2 original GME TX3200 + TX3400 + 3 handhelds are all going strong...
They get tossed from vehicle to vehicle regularly!
