    Reputable online dealers?

For years I used to buy from GameDude computers; however I've been reading some horror stories about them lately on the likes of Whirlpool Forums

I will be updating to a new system in the next few weeks and was wondering if anyone can point me towards another trader that has a decent reputation?

I'll be getting something along the lines of:

Intel i7 cpu - not sure which one yet
    Compatible motherboard
4Gb of DDR3 - will this be enough?
    High end graphics card
    1Tb HDD
    HD capture card
    DVD writer
    Windows 7

Cheers in advance for any assistance

    HOME - K.S.Computer's Online Store

    Aus PC-Market Online eStore

Bought stuff from both. I don't know if KS will build a computer for you or just supply the components. Auspcmarket will put it all together for you.

Then there's also this bloke. Dave Blears Computing

I've bought a lot of stuff from CentreCom - Cheap Notebooks & Computers over the years, and have good experiences.

They're prices are pretty good too.

I have recently puchased an Acer small-format desktop over the counter from hardlynormal !

they (somewhat unfortunately) could beat the local computer shops (builders) by a substantial margin

Acer have a free post to them system for repairs

A little off-topic, when when checking the specs of the PC / laptop / workstation that you want to buy, pay attention to the adherence to Industry Standards.

    For instance:
    - SAS is a better solution than SATA disk. SATA is the new IDE, SAS is SCSI with frills. SATA isn't even trusted by IBM or HP, and they only provide a 1 year warranty on these. SAS disks have a longer Mean Time To Failure, and get a 3 year warranty!
    - registered DIMMS versus unregistered DIMMS: purely for multi-bit errors.
    - latest chipset and CPU versus bargain basement stuff that is end of life
    - do you need good graphics? Then ignore the on-board GPU specs and buy that 1GB graphics card

Sure, this adds some cost, but if you need and want to upgrade in the medium term (say in 3 years), chances are you can still finds DIMMS, disks and CPUs. Have you tried finding IDE disks lately? What about older CPUs and DIMMS that were available not 12 months ago on special?

It coud mean the difference between ditching your UA$2000 workstation, and keeping it for another year or 2.
