I just picked up my i4 yesterday replacing the aging iPhone 3G. Back up the 3G then plug in the i4. iTunes asked me if i wanted to start with a new Apple product or if it was my 3G, so I selected existing and it just put all the settings backup info onto it then sync'd and it put all my apps back on to the i4 so now I have apps I paid for once on two separate Apple devices!! SCORE!!!!!

The 3G has been such a good phone but the heat from the trip to Kalbarri started to kill the battery and iOS4 was just a little too memory hungry.
Turning it off and watching it shut down for the last time was like pulling the plug on a dying family member. Almost brought tears to my eyes..... ?

To have multiple devices I think you just need to have a different authorization or Apple account.....

Do you have an ipod or iphone?

I'd actually suggest creating an account on your mac. You can have up to 4. That way he can keep all his stuff separate from yours and yours from him! Plus you just make him a normal user and it's pretty much impossible for him to do any damage.

What's with the memory stick stuff? I'm unsure as to what he's trying to do there.

Apple allows up to 5 authorised computers to use "products" bought on an iTunes account - apps, music videos etc (but not feature movies). iTunes content on one computer can be shared over a network using Home Sharing.

AFAIK There is no limit to the number of "devices" (iPods, iPhones, iPads) that you can synchronise with an iTunes account through one of the authorised computers. Hence you can have the same app on both your iPhones...

However an iPod / iPhone can only be synchronised with one computer at a time, so if you connect it to a different computer iTunes will want to wipe it and re-synchronise it with the content on the new computer.

ok, on my apple i have separate accounts for the boys so no worries there

connected one of the boys nano to my account and all is good, so from what you say he can go to his mums and connect to her pc with no worries?

I don't think it will work. Apple and PC's use different file systems.
