And Assisted GPS still requires satellite to get a decent fix...
Like every GPS, tree cover, heavy thunder cloud etc will block a fix.
In other areas you can also get what is known as Canyoning... Common in city streets or valleys.. This can throw even a high end GPS out by over 100km (occasionally)
Yes I remember a couple of years ago in Melbourne I had forgotten which street to turn up to get to the Big4 near Pentridge, and the bloody GPS was just useless.
I have had a GPS since 2003 with my old Garmin GPS_V, which I still have at home, as what do you do with one? It cost me $990 sing AFAIR.
I currently have a Garmin 265? cheapo with topo1. Which I find adequate, except for the nagging to update maps all the time.

Thanks Tombie for the download. I have already downloaded these files last night, then spent hours searching for where to put them.
There doesn't seem to be a directory in the latest Itunes to place superseded IOS files. The file suffixes are also Apple suffixes. In fact the file search doesn't find any files with "iphone" files or directories as suggested in the howtos.
Anyone know where to position the files in Itunes so that it will show them as an alternative when you go into "restore" as the directions on various sites suggest.

God its frustrating when complooters don't behave.
Maybe yours has a hardware issue? The gps function on my iphone4 is noticeably quicker and just as accurate as my my vms touring 500 gps, so much so that I now use an ipad mounted in my car, loaded with maps, tethered to my iphone for signal; couldn't be happier. I do occasionally reboot my iphone as a new iphone (instead of loading a backup onto the iphone) and that always speeds it up and improves performance. This is something I never had to do a couple of year ago so maybe a sign of the times.
As each year goes by I believe I notice more and more buggy little things happening with my mac toys. Generally they resolve themselves with the following updates but its still a PITA to have to trouble shoot a product that has built its reputation on just working. Gone are the days where I could walk into any mac store and some freakishly perky apple bot would drop what they were doing and fix my problem on the spot. Today I have to make an appointment to see a 'genius' or wait 3/4hr online to get into a chat to resolve it. The cost of a company getting too big?
still… just like when I get irritated at my puma and start to look around for an alternative I see no competition worth mentioning and stick with what I have. Probably not a fair comparison, mac stuff is waaaay less buggy than a LR.
just hold the shift key down when you click restore and you can go to the directory where you saved you downloaded restore file as it brings up the file browser window.Quote:
