Hi,
the solid state disk should be faster I think.
cheers
After my raid zero failure I've gone all soft and looking at raid 1.
If they replace the drive (and no reason they shouldnt) I want to mirror these two,, (and lose 40% of my storage, I have an old 320gb in use also)
Will my games performance take much of a hit,
the read performance should be the same as zero yes?
am quite happy to change whatever
and on this type of subject,,
would an SSD be better holding games or the OS ?

Raid setups are best used for data. I would suggest your best bet for OS, games and the like is to set the computer up how you want (with all the programs etc) then take an image of the drive. This means that if you do have a harddrive crash then all you need to do is image any harddrive and you have a restored computer.
The issue with raid setups (unless they are software raid setups) is that the two drives must be identical in size and normally even to the level of model of drive. The issue comes when one drive fails you normally have to replace it with an identical drive to get the data back.
We were discussing SSD's yesterday in com eng and they aren't recommended for heavy duty use (yet anyway) like gaming as they don't like the constant read/write that a game session can create and will corrupt quite easily. Using for OS startup disk is ideal.
Better to create a massive RAM drive and load the game into it when you want to run flat out.
how much is a 1tb sata iii drive these days at the cheapy shops.
buy 4 and do a stripped mirror
buy 1 for spares and get a 5 buy discount to boot.... (pardon the pun)
