Yes. It doesn't pump power into the computer, but makes that amount available for the computer to draw on. So more is better, as long as the voltage is stable.

G'day.
The AC power supply that came with my EEE PC laptop has an output of
12 volt 3 amp.
I have a Power tech plus power supply that plugs into the cigarette lighter in the Disco. Its output is 12 volt 6 AMP !!!
Would this be safe to plug into my laptop when I use it as a GPS ?
Tar.
Robert.

Hi Robert, what you need to post up is the AC input of your computer’s power supply and the CONTINUOS wattage of the inverter.
Post these up and we can then see if you can operate everything together.
Hi again Robert, your AC requirement is a total of 240 watts but 100 watts would be more like it.
Still need the CONTINUOS wattage of your Power Tech inverter.
Hi Robert and that inverter is just big enough and if you haven’t bought it yet, I would go for a 300 watt inverter.
Even if you have already purchased that 150w inverter or intend to get another, larger one, you need to find some other ways to power it other than a cigarette power socket.
This is for a few reasons, the first is that at 120w you are drawing the maximum tolerable power a cigarette power socket can handle and even at this wattage, the socket and plug are going to get hot.
The other is that vehicle wiring to power sockets is to say the least absolutely pathetically thin and you could have serious problems with voltage drop and this will only cause the inverter to pull more power and 120w or 10 amps is usually the size of the fuse, so this will add another potential problem.
As posted earlier, you probably won’t pull 100 watts but it’s far safer to set up properly and SAFELY in the first place.
Drivesafe, I havent bought an inverter yet but if I did I would rewire the ciggy lighter with heavier wire and install a 20 amp fuse or one able to handle the chosen inverter size. The inverter that I downloaded needed a 15 amp fuse.
I just had a look on the Asus EEE website and they say that my AC power supply is 36Watt.
They also have a 36watt in car power supply- charger that plugs into
the ciggy lighter.
I dont know if this helps with your wattage question, tho ?
Cheers.
Robert.
