    PSU's

When I built ROME I bought a good modular one,,

but 3 years down the track, it seems hybrid PSU's are the go,,
Plug in Video card cables and the rest are permanent.

    Any reason for this?
    bad connections?
    its the new Black?

Ive never heard of a hybrid PSU before.

I think modular are still the go.

Are you in the market for one?

If so, i cant recommend corsair strongly enough. I had a HX-620, now i have a HX-850. They are great. Well built and the modular design is great.

They also have a 7 year warranty, which is fantastic

quad rail should be superior i would think as it will have 4 separate circuits.

but depends on how you plug em up and what your using i suppose.

for a big times gamer like you a multiple rail should be better.

You have to be careful at how many amps can be supplied over the 12v rails some very high end video cards require 40amps on a rail.

I had to replace a high end power supply because i didn't bother reading the requirements had 6 12v rails which made it great for a server as it could run plenty of hard drives but it didn't provide enough amps on the 2 rails to run the GTX480 i had.

Simply way to look at it is you want a high quality power supply with as many seperate rails as possible but make sure the pcie 12v rails supply enough amps for the video card

Heres a good example of what I'm talking about despite having similar wattage

    4 12v rails at 18A

    vs

    which has a single 60A 12v rail
