Thread: Mac or IBM?

apple is cool at the moment so if you want one, get one
they do look really nice.

saying that I am a die hard windows bloke,
They are cheap to buy
You get lots of power for your money.
software that does, well, everything
cheap upgrades you can buy anywhere
keep them up to date and rarely go wrong
if you know windows already, zero learning curve

I havent had a virus in about 8 years and the only time i have had to re-install the OS was upgrade from XP to W7
I'm happy with windows.

Have had windoze,went to a mac ,lent to a friend,now have windoze again .
Will be going to a mac again sooner rather than later..

I use both at work & home, but at home when there is a choice I always use the Mac.

When the kids want to use one, they always choose the Mac.

My wife has the latest wiz-bang HP laptop, but even she will sometimes use the Mac.

Occasionally there will be a program that needs to be run on windows, but in that case I just run bootcamp, turn it into windows for a while, and it works.

Having said that, have a test drive of both and see what you think.

Hi, I must be the odd one out.
I have bought a MacBook Pro, purely because I love the iPhone.
For me it hasn't lived up to the expectations. I put it up there with the Landcruiser and Broome, as being over priced and over rated.
Have had a couple of Toshiba laptops in the past, with very good reliability and usage and never had a problem. Went against my better judgement and got the Mac, could have got a Toshiba for half the price.
As an example, both the Mac and iPhone have Bluetooth, yet are unable to be tethered to pass pics etc via Bluetooth. Must use iTunes.
There are things the Mac does that I like, but just don't think it is worth the extra $$$.
Sure, you need to upgrade Microsoft stuff and have Virus protection, but never found it to be a problem.

I like the way Mac fixes itself after a freeze.
Installing apps is just dragging the file to your application instant install, uninstall just put in trash, none of this orphan file crap like windows, defragging, system recovery.

I went Mac after years of Windows frustration and still congratulate me to the move. Having Windows at work I cannot understand how on Earth I could live with all this crap for so many years.
As for converting/working with Windows files, Open Office is the go.

I have to disclose a bias towards Apple, though, having taken my first "virtual steps" on an Apple II, shortly thereafter with an Apple III. Does anyone remember these???

Sure! My first computer was the SE 30 and even today this was a benchmark. I could run a massive colour screen from it too which could pivot between landscape and portrait, or carry it easily around and simply use the inbuilt screen - all back in 1987... loved it.....

I really wonder if these machines hadn't come about where windows would be today..... Amber DOS prompts? I remember having to type commands to move between directories or to do anything else....shease!

As for sharing Excel, PowerPoint or Word files per say, if you use Microsoft Office on the Mac the files are completely seamless with a PC.

And the MBP will be running long after a Toshi has **** itself or become too low end to run Microsofts latest incarnation
