True, but it stops someone else from using my email address (which is already in the public domain) for things I have no control of.

I have another email address which is being used by a kid to register on kids sites judging by the Paddle Pop Lion emails I am getting.
On yet another email address I am getting emails about job interviews I've not applied for at Coles, Maccas, KFC, etc. I've replied to them "I have a job but I'll keep you in mind."

I had an interesting experience with facebook some time ago... - tried to set up an acccount or whatever using an old (from) work nickname. - Could'nt 'cos it was already used ... shrt story, still don't know how I managed it 'cos I'm a computer illiterate... but got a new password sent to my email addy, looked right through this bloke's postings, pics, comments and his "friends".... and left a message thanking them all for an evening's entertainment!
    - Identity theft is a foregone conclusion for those silly enough to put 'real' data on this or any social network.

Don't people realise THEY are the product being sold ? - Facebook et al is merely the barn to live in as they fatten up and give their lives away ?

Edward Bernays and his ilk have much to answer for....

Mick, you may find it's something as simple as a typo such as an extra .au.

My email is my business name @bigpond.com and I keep getting emails for a company in WA with a similar business name whose email addy is the same first name @bigpond.com.au

    Whats a "friend"

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

I once saw the comment that a friend was someone who would look after your dog or cat and water your pot plants at a moment's notice because you had been admitted to hospital or had to rush off to be at the bedside of a dying relative.

The comment was made in the context of questioning the use of the term "friend" to describe Facebook relationships.

I think my wife would do all that. Scouse wouldn't as he's only a second-bestest friend.
