the rest is rubbish imho
irfanview is my viewer of choice and very little comes close to it in functionality and ease of use
grab the plugins as well if you give it a try.
When I had Win XP I just used the windows picture viewer to browse through my pics and had no issues.
I upgraded to Win 7 (64bit). Using windows explorer thumbnails of my pics exist but as soon as I open some of them with the standard Windows Live Galley that Win 7 uses I just get a black line across the middle of the screen - it looks like software has reduced the height and at the same time stretched the image. The strange thing is that other pics display fine and there does not seem to be any rhyme or reason why some display OK and do not. Most are JPEGs.
To fix the problem I have opened the relevant pics in photoshop and resave and I have no issues - but is a pain to do this for all pics.
Any ideas??
Thanks
Garry

Hi Garry, you could download and use the free program Picassa - it is a bit better IMHO than the windows picture viewer and has some limited ability - but useful - to do some editing too. Its what I use because for browsing the images the thumbnail size can be made a lot bigger than with windows picture viewer. Depending on your level of computer savvy you may need to spend a bit of time (I did!!) playing with the controls to get used to it but its pretty intuitive and you can list your photos in order of time and date taken or in a more traditional folder view like the old picture viewer.
Why irfanview or picassa when if you have Adobe bridge with PS ?
IMO the less programs that you install in your PC the better.
Thanks for all that information - I ended up using irfanview as suggested by Incisor and seems to work fine.
Thanks
Garry
