    RAVE on MAC

    Help with RAVE,

I downloaded version 20 of RAVE and Acrobat, I can now open it on my mac only to discover it doesn't have anything on the TD5. The PC based version I have has the lot, V8 and the TD5 (I need the TD5). why doesn't V.20 RAVE have the TD5 like older versions?

From where did you get it? If the USA, it won't have the diesel variants. My NAS copy doesn't.

If you have a look at the Publication Number on the second page of the Workshop Manual it will have either ENG or NAS after the number. You want ENG.

The version of the workshop manual I have is "VDR100090 ENG (6)" which I'm fairly sure is the final revision before the content was moved to the Land Rover support site.

Fresh Mac owner - Mac & RAVE

    Hi people
Well after many years of using iOS and yearning for more, I've finally bought a mid-2010 build MacBook Pro 13".

Having worked and lived with Windows since the days of Win 3.1 (yes that long), I'm loving the Mac, but living with iOS for 4 or 5 years is not the same as using Mountain Lion, so I have a question...no doubt a really, really, really, really, really simple question:

I have always had a copy of RAVE saved on my laptop and desktop HDDs and want to do the same on the Mac...so after inserting the disk, I copied it - as I did under Windows - and what I ended up with (quite logically really), was a copy of all the files on the disk - whereas Win politely put a shortcut on my desktop.

So please, what is the procedure to replicate this under OS X, so I either have a shortcut or an app for RAVE in "Finder"?

    Thanks in advance.
    Mike

Is the copy of rave formatted for mac? Pretty sure you would need a mac formatted copy of Rave to do this. (.dmg)

I don't at the moment, so I just use VMfusion to create a parallel desktop. Not as good as what you are referring to but does the job.

Pretty sure Dave sells formatted copies but I'm also sure there are other copies out there as well and other ways to do what you are asking.

    Regards
    Andrew

If you have a program called free rave, you cam remove the Rave's protection of only working on a Pc with the default acrobat 4.
Once removed you can open up Rave with your own version of PDf reader, (but Acrobat for Mac works best though) which is a free download from adobe.
It doesn't auto run like a PC , but all you need to do on you mac is open the directory PDF files

The only problem with using freeraved RAVE on mac is that recent version of OSX prevent the links in the PDF's from opening links to other PDFs so you have to manually open each file. The copies of RAVE sold by Incisor in the forum shop are freeraved already.

Apart from chats about Rave on Macs, one application which has already paid for itself on the Mac is Time Machine.

This application is used to back-up all your information to an external drive.

I just leave it plugged in and it routinely backs-up your information. Critical for photos as we have all our photos on the Mac from since our children were born.

If you have an old PC just take the HDD out and place it in a caddy (just need to format for Mac).

By the way the first back-up takes a decent amount of time (leave over night) but after that it's pretty quick as it replicates the last back-up and only makes the changes to the back-up you have made.

    Regards
    Andrew

    Hi guys
Thanks for the information regarding options for RAVE - at present I have an old desktop PC on my work bench with a dead video card - I might chuck another card in it and use that, after all I'm not sure I want my oily fingers on the Mac

Andrew, thanks for that re: Time Machine, I haven't run it yet, but I've picked up a new external HDD ready to go. I agree, the kids managed to get a virus onto the above mentioned PC, I'm still in the process of recovering data (including photos) from it. I had it backed up to an external drive, but the damn power supply has failed (it's a Vantec Nexstar 3), so I've got to track down a new power supply for the enclosure.

Oh and got myself a "Move to Mac" magazine

    Cheers
    Mike
