Thread: Windows graphic card drivers

Windows is asking me to install this,,


nVidia - Graphics Adapter WDDM1.1, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.2, Other hardware - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570

I already have the latest driver from nvidea, is there any reason to think this will be different?

WDDM (Windows Display Driver Model) is the Windows video display architecture that came out with Windows Vista. Its drivers are optimised for use with Vista and Windows 7.
current version is 1.1.

WDDM 1.2 is the newest version and is optimised for Windows 8. It will be backwards compatable with Vista and Widows 7 and I would expect it have improvements over 1.1.

If I was running a PC where reliability was more important over performance I would run WDDM drivers over nVidia drivers as they are specifically designed to work with the OS and are not 'generic' drivers. If I was running a gaming platform where performance was more important than reliability I'd run the nVidia factory drivers as they will be optimised for speed / performance.

nVidia doesn't have a real good track record with stability and Windows so I'm always a bit wary of using their drivers. The pragmatic view is 'if you're happy with your graphics performance why change the driver ?' But where's the fun in that.
