I know how that feels. I HATE Windows 8.
....I dumped it and went to Apple - at the suggestion(?) of SWMBO. It was a punish at first, but won't be going back.
Sorry I can't help mate, all the best.
Matt.
Windows 8 has done it to me again! I had installed a couple of programs for a specific purpose but they seemed to cause me trouble so I decided to run system restore. This is where everything hit the fan. The computer sat there for over half an hour telling me that it was. correcting the registry. the computer failed and then brought up the screen telling me that a fault had occurred and then indicated that the automatic repair program was running. It then switched to diagnosing my pc. after that nothing works. I am almost over it. Any suggestions? The computer is relatively new. Jim![]()

You probably have a number of system restores. Try going back to an earlier one than the one you already tried - perhaps it was already bung when it did the last system restore.
I had a couple of early glitches with my Win8 PC, and had to do a couple of 'skip back' system restores.
It is running well now though. So give that a try and see if it helps.
Keep persevering - after the initial 'strangeness' it is a really good operating system. Way faster then Win7.
Hope that helps
David
In addition to the useful posts above, a lot of laptops come with a recovery partition where you can put them back to the factory installed configuration. Wipes all your programs/data but might be the quickest solution if its relatively new and you don't have a lot installed on it.
There's slightly different ways of getting to the recovery program depending on which laptop/manufacturer. Google is usually your best friend to work it out.

Sits there but will not load windows. The HDD light is flickering so something is going on but what? nothing works. insert recovery disk in drive and restart computer but won't boot from recovery disc.

why would you run system restore instead of just uninstalling the programs?
