I've had similar dramas with trying to restore Win 8.
If I had nothing better to do with my time I'd do the reversion back to Win 7 but I have made a decision to buy an iMac and a Macbook Pro later in the year (following updates) so it's not worth the effort involved.
I'm glad you have it "sorted".
Quick! Do a backup!
Have you had problems with Linux or is that just a throwaway line a bit like the Toyota drivers who just repeat the myth about Land Rovers being unreliable and Toyotas being unbreakable?
It wasn't really a serious suggestion on my part. I thought the comment about going back to Windows 7 might not have been entirely serious, so I thought I would continue in the same vein. I know Linux isn't for everyone.
This is all a bit off topic, but I have had no real problems with Linux during the ten years or so that I have been using it. Comparing the Linux experience today with the way it was 15 years ago is a bit like comparing a D4 to a Series LR.![]()

I even tried to fire up a windows 7 full install disc I have but even that didn't work. I should have stayed in bed today![]()

I work in IT for a large company and everyone laughs at windows 8 and all agree that ony worthwhile on a tablet............but why not go android if you have a tablet? Dude just go to a computer store, buy windows 7 and forget about 8 FOR EVER.........its the new Windows ME (for those that remember). Or if your game download OpenSUSE and install that, i love it on my laptop and with KDE desktop its so damn easy to use even when your used to windows 7 and you will be amazed with the performance and reliablity. Plus OpenSUSE completely circumvents any issues you may experience with windows and home theatre hardware using HDMI.................i spent many hours trying to get windows 7 to communicate right only to find the "Copy Protection" embedded in HDMI and windows stopped me getting audio ....!!
