    IMHO it's still rubbish

some things it does really well

the things windows does really well it doesn't do very well at all, yes they are doable but no where as convenient or as easy a workflow or as intuitive for the less computer adept.

it is good for those with better than basic skills and hopeless for those with none.

as for the windows 8 haters, it taint windows 7 that's for sure, it is way more reliable than 7 in most environments IME.

and 8.1 will address the start menu dilemma so many cant cope with.

only seen 2 windows 8 boxes with severe virus infections and they both had norton installed. yet to get one in using the std built in version of defender that is heavily infected.

but as things go with computers.... much of the common problems can be categorized as ID 10 T errors and so called IT experts can make some absolute rippers....

If it won't boot from CD/DVD you might have to change the boot order in the BIOS.

My machine recognises a bootable CD/DVD and gives you about 10 seconds to hit any key to boot from CD. You have to be watching or it counts down and then boots from the HD.
