Crypto-locker will go after any windows network shares it can find so make sure your linux file server doesn't allow write access by default

so while it wouldn't be directly impacted a compromised windows box in the house could still cause some damage to the files on if from what I understand

I found this on the HitmanPro site. I have used their software successfully for Malware removal in the past, & this looked interesting in relation to CryptoLocker.

User behaviour is the major cause for these types of infections. Don't click on attachments from people you don't know, or were not expecting.

For this one, the zbot malware infects you first - from you clicking on what appears to be a PDF file or similar - and it is actually a self-executing ZIP file.
Once infected with the zbot malware - it goes to a Command & Control site to download and install Cryptolocker.
