Go to Settings, More Settings, Tethering and Portable Hotspot, slide the Portable Wi-Fi switch, press on where it says Portable Wi-Fi and follow the instructions.

Hopefully that works. Been using the SII as a tether for my Lappy for nigh on two years now.

Yeah I was doing it for my lappy the other day when I was having the data cable relocated. Works well.

If you are using it for adesktop PC (or any for that matter) you'll need to ensure the PC has wirelss capability of course.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

Once you establish the mobile device as a hotspot (name it appropriately and use the usual wifi precautions as you'd do on a home network) your PC/Laptop will see it as a wireless access point. Just connect as you would for your home wifi but using the info created in the setup of the mobile point.

IF I could find my phone.....

I could put up screen shots of how and where.

Have you had any issues when connecting the phone via cable to copy files across?

Also when you connect the phone via cable you should have a couple of options on the phone as to why you are connecting it (should appear in the notification bar) - do you get this?

What model galaxy are you using and what OS?

    Cheers,

    Dave

Connect the usb lead from the phone to the computer.
Setting, more settings, tethering and portable hotspots, turn usb tethering on.

Yes, that would be helpful. I use my phones as internet modems regularly, and prefer to use the cable rather than the Wi-Fi hotspot (though I can do either).

But the ease of use depends on the OS. I'm running OmniROM 4.4, which (when data is enabled on the phone) automatically connects as a modem when plugged into a PC...

I use it tethered to my laptop and it works fine, though some of the cables can be a bit dodgy. That might be your problem.

Have you downloaded Kies onto your computer ?
