Thread: Made the mistake of "upgrading" iPad2 to iOS8

    download the appropriate file

    then tell itunes to restore using that file..

    I'll do it again and note exactly. Something about verifying restore with Apple.

    I had a look around the 'net and everything I have found says that Apple has stopped signing/authorising iOS 7.1.2 and that downgrading is no longer possible.

    Newer devices cannot be downgraded anymore.
    iPhone 4S/5/5c/5c, iPad 2/3/4/Mini/Mini 2/Air, and iPod Touch 5th Gen     – These devices cannot downgrade, because they rely on digitally-signed certificates from Apple and the hardware (A5+ chip) has not been hacked. Since Apple is no longer signing certificates for older versions of iOS, these devices cannot be downgraded.
    However, I am sure I once did it on my iPhone a few years ago using some devious method. That was the 3GS, though.

    One iOS 8 that is not working for me is audiobooks.

    I download audiobooks from a library.

    What has happened in the past is that after the download the files are marked as music and I change it to audiobook.

    I find that now when I chNge it to audiobook it goes into a mad loop and will not play but does if I leave as music.

    Any one else use the Overdrive utility to download library books to their ipad.

    Just to add I used a different approach to move audio book to IPAD and it seems to have worked.

    Instead of using the Overdrive app to transfer the library audiobook to my IPAD, as I have done in the past I first moved the book into iTunes on my MAC, converted it to a audiobook there and moved it via sync with my IPAD. I guess this is a more standard way of doing it. I thought you may not be able to do this as library books are protected, I am sure I have tried this before and ran in to the protection issue.

    there is an faq on it out there somewhere, but from meory you hold the option key or the apple key down while you click restore....

    something like that... will have a look later when i have a little time on my hands, hopefully
